Grammar practice with new sentences for the same skill

Easy Twin turns your child's grammar worksheet into a twin worksheet: the same skills, such as verb tense or subject–verb agreement, practiced with brand-new sentences. It is for parents of K–8 kids, and each question comes with two hints and step-by-step solutions.

What grammar skills do kids practice, and in which grades?

Grammar worksheets practice the rules that make sentences clear: parts of speech, verb tense, subject–verb agreement, pronouns, capital letters, and punctuation. Kids meet the basics in 1st grade and keep adding harder rules through middle school.

A rough map of what shows up when:

  • 1st–2nd grade: nouns and verbs, capitalizing names and the start of a sentence, periods and question marks, and simple plurals.
  • 3rd–5th grade: past, present, and future tense, irregular verbs, pronouns, adjectives versus adverbs, commas in a list, possessives, and quotation marks.
  • 6th–8th grade: clauses, complex sentences, pronoun–antecedent agreement, commas after introductory phrases, and active versus passive voice.

Easy Twin labels each question with the exact rule it tests, for example "identifying the subject of a sentence", then writes a new sentence that tests that same rule. The answer type stays the same: a "circle the verb" question becomes a multiple-choice or short-answer question about a new sentence, and a fill-in-the-blank stays a fill-in-the-blank.

Why does varied practice help with grammar?

Varied practice helps because grammar is about recognizing a pattern in any sentence, not in one familiar sentence. After a worksheet has been corrected in class, a child can often "fix" the same sentences from memory without applying the rule.

A twin sentence changes the words and keeps the structure. If the original asked whether "The dogs run / runs to the park" is correct, the twin might ask about "The kittens sleep / sleeps on the couch". Your child has to find the subject and check whether it is singular or plural all over again.

Grammar rules also have look-alikes. Its and it's, their and there, good and well: the only way to know the rule has stuck is to meet it in a sentence your child hasn't seen before.

The hints are built for this kind of learning. The first hint is a guiding question that points at the rule, such as "Is the subject one kitten or more than one?" The second does part of the work, like pointing your child to the subject, but never gives the answer. After the sheet, the summary screen shows worked solutions, so a missed question turns into a short lesson on the rule rather than just a red mark.

What grammar mistakes do parents see most?

Matching the verb to the nearest noun

In "The box of crayons is on the desk", kids pick "are" because "crayons" is closest. Have your child cover the extra words and ask, "What is the sentence really about?"

Mixing up its and it's

Teach one test: if "it is" or "it has" fits, use the apostrophe. Twin questions keep testing the same pair with new sentences, which is how the rule sticks.

Adding -ed to every past-tense verb

"Runned" and "writed" are signs your child knows the rule but not the exceptions. Keep a short list of irregular verbs from the twin sheets and review it aloud.

Confusing plurals and possessives

Kids add an apostrophe to every word ending in s. Ask: "Does something belong to them?" If not, no apostrophe.

Using an adjective where an adverb belongs

"She sings good" is a common slip. Point out that words describing how someone does something usually end in -ly, with "well" as the special case.

How do I use Easy Twin for grammar homework?

Scan the graded or blank worksheet, then practice the twin on screen or on paper.

  1. Scan it. The worksheet scanner reads every printed question and ignores your child's handwriting and the teacher's marks, so a marked-up sheet works fine.
  2. Get the twin. The twin worksheet generator writes new sentences that practice the same rule, in the same order as the original.
  3. Practice with hints. Interactive practice grades typed answers without penalizing case, extra spaces, or trailing punctuation, which matters on grammar sheets where the question itself is about punctuation. When a question depends on exact punctuation, it is usually written as multiple choice so the choices carry the difference.
  4. Revisit the hard ones. A Review Sheet prints only the questions your child struggled with, so you can work on the one rule that isn't sticking.

The progress insights screen lists "tricky spots" by skill, so you can see whether the same grammar rule keeps coming up.

Which grades practice grammar?

Frequently asked questions

Can Easy Twin make grammar worksheets?

Yes. Scan your child's grammar worksheet and Easy Twin writes a new question for every printed question, practicing the same rule with new sentences, names, and words.

Does the app understand which grammar rule a question tests?

Yes, it labels each question with a precise skill, such as "identifying the subject of a sentence", and writes the twin to practice that skill at the same difficulty.

How are punctuation answers graded?

Typed answers are graded without penalizing case, extra spaces, or trailing punctuation, so questions where the punctuation itself is the answer work best as multiple choice, which is how the app usually writes them.

What grades does grammar practice cover?

Easy Twin is designed for kindergarten through 8th grade. The twin matches the approximate grade level of the original sheet. See grades for what each year covers.

How much does it cost to make a grammar twin?

Each scanned page uses one scan, and new accounts get 3 free scans. Practicing a twin is unlimited and free. See pricing for Pro and credit packs.
