Spelling and vocabulary practice from your child's worksheet
Easy Twin turns printed spelling and vocabulary worksheets into twin worksheets that practice the same spelling pattern or word skill with new words and sentences. It is for parents of K–8 kids and works best with fill-in, choose-the-correct-spelling, and word-meaning questions.
What spelling and vocabulary skills do kids practice, and in which grades?
Spelling and vocabulary worksheets practice spelling patterns, word endings, and word meanings: short and long vowels, blends, silent letters, adding -ing and -ed, prefixes and suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, and words that sound alike. Weekly spelling lists usually run from 1st grade to about 6th grade, and vocabulary work continues after that.
What tends to appear by grade:
- 1st–2nd grade: short-vowel and long-vowel words, consonant blends, sight words, and simple rhyming or word-family patterns.
- 3rd–4th grade: doubling the last consonant before -ing, dropping the silent e, plurals like -es and -ies, homophones, and basic prefixes such as un- and re-.
- 5th–6th grade: Greek and Latin roots, suffixes that change a word's part of speech, multiple-meaning words, and synonyms with shades of meaning.
Easy Twin labels each question with the pattern it practices, so a twin for "add -ing to hop" uses a different word that follows the same doubling rule, not just any word ending in -ing.
Which spelling worksheets work with Easy Twin, and which don't?
Easy Twin works with spelling and vocabulary questions that are printed on the page: fill-in-the-blank sentences, missing letters, "choose the correct spelling", adding endings, and word-meaning questions. It reads each printed question and writes a new one that practices the same pattern.
A spelling list test is a different kind of sheet. In a list test, the teacher reads each word aloud and the child writes it on a numbered line, so the paper itself holds no printed question to rewrite. Easy Twin doesn't read words aloud, so it can't give a dictated test. For list tests, you can read the words aloud yourself, and use Easy Twin on the printed practice pages that come home with the list.
Vocabulary pages, such as matching a word to its meaning or picking the synonym, work well, because each item has one clear answer the app can check.
Why does varied practice help with spelling and vocabulary?
Varied practice helps because the goal is to learn the pattern, not just this week's twenty words. A child can memorize "hopping" and still write "shoping" on next week's list. When the twin asks about a new word that follows the same rule, your child has to apply the rule rather than remember a spelling.
The same goes for vocabulary. Knowing that "enormous" means "very big" in one sentence is a start; recognizing a different word for "very big" in a different sentence shows the idea has landed.

What spelling and vocabulary mistakes do parents see most?
Forgetting to double the consonant
"Hoping" and "hopping" are different words. Ask your child whether the vowel is short; if it is, the consonant usually doubles before -ing or -ed.
Keeping the silent e
"Makeing" shows the rule hasn't landed. Practice a few words where the e drops before a vowel ending: make → making, ride → riding.
Mixing up homophones
Their, there, and they're sound identical, so the ear can't help. Teach a meaning test for each: "belongs to them", "a place", "they are".
Spelling by sound only
Words like "knight" or "said" don't follow the sounds. Group these tricky words together and review them separately from pattern words.
Learning a definition but not the use
Kids can recite "enormous means big" and still misuse it. Ask your child to use the word in a new sentence about something at home.
How do I use Easy Twin for spelling and vocabulary homework?
Scan the printed practice page, check the twin, and let your child practice on screen or on paper.
- Scan the practice page. The worksheet scanner reads only printed questions; your child's written answers are ignored.
- Get new words. The twin worksheet generator keeps each question's format, so a "choose the correct spelling" question stays multiple choice with four options.
- Practice with hints. In interactive practice your child types the answer or taps a choice, gets up to three tries, and can open two hints, like "What happens to a short-vowel word before you add -ing?"
- Print for handwriting. If your child needs to practice writing the words by hand, print the twin worksheet instead.
A simple weekly rhythm works for many families: scan the first practice page when the list comes home, practice the twin midweek, and reprint only the misses on a Review Sheet the night before the test. Because a twin uses new words that follow the same patterns, it is a good check on whether your child can spell words beyond the ones on this week's list.

Frequently asked questions
Can Easy Twin give my child a spelling test?
Not a dictated one. Easy Twin has no read-aloud, so it can't say words for your child to spell. It does make printed spelling practice, such as fill-ins and "choose the correct spelling" questions.
Will the twin use the same spelling words as the list?
No, the twin uses new words that follow the same pattern or rule. That is the point: it checks whether your child can apply the pattern to a word they didn't memorize.
Does the app accept spelling mistakes as correct?
Grading ignores capital letters, extra spaces, and trailing punctuation, but the letters themselves have to match. For choose-the-spelling questions, your child picks from four options.
Does it work for vocabulary worksheets?
Yes. Synonyms, antonyms, word meanings, prefixes, and roots all have clear answers, so they work well as multiple-choice, fill-in, or short-answer twin questions.
